Airdrie’s Reviews
1. Dior Show Brow Styler – I was expecting perfection but I am disappointed. Dior Show Mascara is my current favourite, but I found this brow pencil to be too hard. It did not apply easily; I had to press too hard. Also, it only comes in one shade, which to me seems ridonkulous (my new favourite word.)
2. Aveda Light Elements Texturizing Creme – so new it’s not on the Aveda website yet! This is a truly “light” creme. Use it in place of hairspray for short hair. It thickens and holds style lightly. Great scent:
A fresh-yet-spicy citrus aroma with certified organic essential oils of grapefruit, mandarin, ginger, cinnamon, and woodsy notes of sustainably sourced Australian sandalwood. As partners with Aveda, the Aboriginal Peoples receive fair payment for their responsibly harvested sandalwood—creating a business where all parties benefit.

Launch: January 2010 ($30)
3. Avène Retinal O.1% I purchased this directly from the Vancouver Laser and Skincare Centre. This creme contains a 0.1% retinaldehyde. Available over the counter only via physicians, this creme is more gentle than the prescription Renin A that I tried last spring. After a week of use, I’m thrilled with the results. My face feels wonderful. So far no reduction in pore size, but the jury is still out. I have had no irritation, so I can keep using the product. Fingers crossed it will help my blackhead situation.
4. Scentsy This popular at-home direct selling business now comes to Canada.
Scentsy Warmers use a low-watt bulb to melt specially formulated wax slowly, maximizing the fragrance time of the Scentsy Bar or Scentsy Brick.
With no flame, soot, smoke or lead to worry about, the Scentsy system is a safe way to enjoy more than 80 delightful Scentsy fragrances.

Kerry Anne’s Reviews
1. Natural Oils
Kerry Anne has been using Oil of Oregano on budding cold sores to minimize inflammation and shorten the duration of the coldsore. It burns, but it works. I would NOT recommend using the oil on an open sore. Only at the onset.
Acne remedy – putting lavender essential oil and honey on pimples has been helping them dry out, and heal a little faster. I am not slathering all over my face, just using it as a spot treatment.
2. Aveda Light Elements Smoothing Fluid
This is a light fluid styling formula that adds shine and detangles hair when applied to damp hair before blow drying. It is wonderful for fine hair, because it does not weigh it down, yet it is so effective that I can skip the conditioner. $24 for 3.4 fl oz.

3. Remington Emi Airwave: Dryer with Wave Attachment
It’s also known as the “SpinCurl”. I picked this up for $19.99 at Winners, although it retails for $29.99 online. I like to call it the “hair tornado” because you insert a lock of hair into the attachment, and it swirls it around like a tornado until it is a ringlet. It might not work on all hair types, but it gave my bone straight hair some definite wave. It also works as a standard dryer as the wave attachment is removable.
For a shampoo with no sodium laurel sulfate, Onesta lathers up wonderfully, and has a delicious mild citrus smell. Onesta contains no harmful chemicals, parabens, propylene glycol, butylene glycol, synthetic colours or dyes, and some proceeds of sales are used to support cancer research. Onesta was developed by Thomas Redmond, of Aussie Hair Care fame, which is now owned by Procter and Gamble. The five harmful chemicals Onesta will never use are in many of the Aussie products. So does he consider his original line unsafe?

Thanks for mentioning our weekly podcast “Because We Said So” on iTunes, on our last episode we chatted up some Xmas talk, discovered a few ‘beauty blogs’, tested a trio of perfumes and more. Listeners can find us on iTunes or over at our blog http://www.thebecauseshow.com
Yes, you & KA were my inspiration to do a show and I will miss Lip&Lap while it is gone! You guys have turned me on to so many great products I never would have heard about. Ya, I’m going to have to pick Derek’s brain eventually for advice on mikes and a mixer, always more stuff to buy, huh?
Why did I never think to call it “Lip and Lap”? I love that!
Sorry to hear that this is your last show. But as with all things, podcasts have their seasons.
I have been remiss in that I never welcomed Lip Gloss and Laptops into the Canadian Podcast 100 club. I have fixed that now. Lip Gloss and Laptops now has its place on the wall of fame over at http://www.ductapeguy.net/canadian-century-club/ .
This news is so tragic!
I will truly miss my favorite podcast. When I listened to your bi-weekly show, I felt I was hanging out with my two good friends. It’s rare to find others who enjoy both beauty products and technology. :)
Airdrie…will be keeping your family in our prayers.
I cannot find The Because Show in iTunes, I have searched a million ways, could you possibly provide a link here or on twitter, I follow Airdrie over there! Thanks!!!
NEVERMIND! you have to search by “Because We Said So” in the iTunes store! I’ve got it now!
I will miss your podcast, but completely understand your need for a hiatus. Although we have never met, I feel like we are old friends. Your reviews have been great and your commentary very thought provoking. I will continue to read the blog.
Airdrie and Derek – I will be keeping you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.
Kerry Anne – I wish you continued success in your education.
Take care!

I love Scentsy Wickless Candles! I’ve been addicted for more than a year now! I’m actually a Director and have a team of over 160 consultants from all over the US and Canada! I have a two year old and having flameless candles is a must for me. I was so glad to find Scentsy and learn that I didnt have to give up the highly scented scents, just the flame!
