This week Airdrie reviews:

1. Clinique’s new Turnaround Instant Facial
This high-performance facial delivers all the radiance and smoothness of microdermabrasion-with significantly less irritation and stress to skin. Promotes surface cell turnover on multiple levels to instantly unveil skin that’s fresher, more vibrant. Oil free. Use 2-3 times a week for an instant brightness boost.
2. Two products from NUXE

3. We both have recently tried Aveda’s new Enbrightenment Face Care line (available February 14, 2009).

Maybelline The Colossal Volum’ Express Mascara
![]()
This mascara is very good for a drugstore product. No clumps, and while I’m not sure my lashes are, in fact, 9x as voluminized, as Maybelline claims, they do look pretty great, without a hint of Tammy Faye tackiness.
5.
Sweet Anthem Handmade Perfumes

One of our listeners, Valerie, turned us onto to this Seattle company, which makes handmade, alcohol-free perfumes. According to the website:
Unlike mass-produced, commercial perfumes, Sweet Anthem creates perfume oils using 80-85% concentration rates and dilutes most of the perfumes in jojoba, evening primrose, or pomegranate oil. This formulation creates a silky texture, a long-lasting fragrance, and a skin-safe perfume experience.
All of the perfume blends are named after women the company’s founder, Meredith, admires. KA is partial to Vicky, a blend of Almond, Cinnamon and Sweet Orange, and Anita, a blend of Coffee, Moroccan Mint, Peppermint, Pink sugar, Turkish mocha, and Vanilla.

I can’t wait to hear your review of the light therapy. I’ve been having tremendous sleep issues this fall/winter and it never occurred to me that my whole circadian rhythm might be out of whack from the light levels.
Now I definitely want to check out the clinique facial product. I’ll have to check my budget and see if I can squeeze it in to February. I’ll also be checking out that mascara as I’m always looking for a good volumizing one that doesn’t clump.
I loved listening to the current episode. I was on my way to the mall, without the kids for once, and heard your review about the Clinique Instant Facial. I stopped at Macy’s and after getting my Clinique from the class action settlement, I made my way to the Clinique counter to try and buy this product. The rep showed me how it worked on my hand and I couldn’t believe how well it worked. I didn’t hesitate to buy a tube of the product and enjoyed using it in the bath that night. That was 2 days ago and my skin is STILL smooth. I highly recommend this product to everyone!!
Keep up the awesome work ladies, I love you!!
Just found your podcast & LOVE it! I’m sorry to hear one of your hubby’s has cancer. Anyway you two are funny (dropping a deuce), fresh (reviews on soon to be available items) & made my work day go by faster. Can’t wait to listen to archives & new episodes. Keep up the good work!

Hey another comment about light therapy. I didn’t buy a lightbox but I bought “daylight” CF bulbs. They’re more of a bluish color and they’re really bright. Costs the same as a regular CF bulb and you can get them at Walgreens/CVS/Home depot/hardware stores. I noticed a big difference in using them– they’re in every fixture in my house. After you use these you’ll see the old bulbs are kinda a gloomy dark yellow. I think it’s really helped me this season with the cold weather/being stuck indoors/being sick.
Wow I just found this blog, and i have a feeling i am going to love it!!! I just wanted to say I bought the Colossal because the commercials were so enticing. Sure, it doesn’t cost much, nor does it clump, but i was so unimpressed. I love my mascara to be the blackest black and I didn’t feel like their Glam Black was that. I definitely still prefer my Rimmel’s The Magnifier Black mascara to this. Even over the ever so highly upheld Maybelline Pink and Black tube. :)
Ok, so now that my demon spawn children are entertained by the TV I finally have time to make a few comments that I forgot earlier. Regarding Gran Torino—AWESOME MOVIE!! We watched this the other night, and loved it! I haven’t seen a lot of Clint Eastwood movies, but this one was truly great. I can’t wait for it to come out on DVD so we can see it again. Great character lines and it shows that even crotchety old men can have a change of heart and make it right in the end.
Next, the light boxes. I was told to order these for everyone in our office when I was still a worker (before #3 was born in 2007) and some people liked them, others never used them. I think that in climates such as ours (either BC or PacNW) we do have a lack of true sunlight most of the year and that the artificial lights to help a bit; however, I have to say that I’m on the fence about it. If I want my light and vitamin D, I simply go outside without sunglasses for a bit each day and catch whatever ray filters through the clouds.
The “blue” bulbs are also quite nice. We exchanged out the old bright lights in the house for these bulbs about 2 years ago and noticed a big difference. You see things (literally) in a different light. There is no fake yellow tinge cast on everything and your room actually does brighten up. The only downside is that I now see every speck of dust and fingerprint that the little ones leave behind.
