Episode #65 - Heated Eyelash Curler, Depy Face, Almay Blue Eyeshadow, Adbusters

After two weeks, here it is: episode #65 of Lip Gloss and Laptops (MP3 file).

Airdrie's Reviews:

This week Airdrie reviews two CRAPTACULAR products.

1. The La Cross Heated Lash Curler is a total piece of crap. It does not work at all. If anyone knows a heated lash curler that actually works please email me. I have very straight lashes.

2. The Depy Face by Velvet Touch hair remover does a great job removing skin from the face, but the hair stays behind. It might be good for sanding the back deck, but does not remove fine hair from the face, as it claims. It is a horrible product. Don't buy it. Can I say that? You bet I can.

Kerry Anne's Reviews

My recent purchase of Almay Intense i-Color for Blue Eyes system was not well thought out. I bought the "Play Up" collection. Yes, I have blue eyes, but I should have taken a closer look at the shadow colours and thought critically about whether the shades would be a good match for me. They weren't. The brown was decent, but the blues were shimmery, unflattering and left me with a bruised look. Air gave them try as well, with the same results. Perhaps we just didn't have the right skin tones. Almay also makes palettes for brown, green and hazel eyes. The trio for hazel eyes would have suited my blue eyes much better.

Despite the colour being all wrong for me, the shadow itself was long-lasting and had good pigments. It cost me $9.99CA or about $7.50US.

On the positive side, the Intense i-Color Bring Out Eyeliner is fabulous. The Brown Topaz does complement my eyes and the pencil itself is excellent quality. It is retractable, with a built-in sharpener, and is long-lasting while still being blendable. It retails for $9.99CA or $7.50US.

Airdrie, did you use the heated eyelash curler after you had applied mascara or before? I did some research when I bought my ModelCo heated eyelash curler a while back, and found out (surprisingly) that the heated curlers are supposed bend the lashes by molding the mascara. However, I found that mine did not work very well with mascara either... The lashes are not well enough separated by the plastic spacers, and the result is that the lashes can "melt" together. I have fine, straight lashes. Without mascara I found, like you, that the curler did not do anything at all. Now I occationaly use it to refresh my curl if I don't have time to redo my makeup before an evening out.

Hey there: Just wanted to leave some comments about your latest podcast.

I love my almay eye color coordinated set. I was able to buy the eyeshadow, liner, and mascara as a set at Target (it was a better buy). The colors are perfect for me (I bought the brown one). I wasn't sure, because the brown one comes with purple liner, which I was hesitant about trying, but I think that it really brings out my eyes.

I have, years ago, used the little sandpaper things to remove hair. I used them on my unibrow, and they worked wonderfully. I have very thick eyebrows, so maybe they didn't work for you guys because the hair was thinner.

In your natural products podcast, you also mentioned that a landfill was like a giant compost pile. It isn't. Landfills don't get enough mechanical turning over for things to compost appropriately.

Love your accents.
