Episode #64 - Creamy Goodness

Head on over to the podcast page and give a listen to episode #64 (MP3 file, about 54 minutes) of Lip Gloss and Laptops.

This week, we talk about cream. Face cream, body cream, tinted moisturizer, we've got them covered. And for the second consecutive week, all of our reviews are positive! Oh, and we'll be taking a break next week, so you'll hear us again in TWO weeks, June 20.

The winners of the artificial finger and toe nail kits from our friends at Kiss are Jenn F and Liz. Congratulations!

Our song this week is Don't Ya by Geoff Smith.

Kerry Anne's Reviews

Vichy Lumineuse Sheer Radiance Tinted Moisturizer

This is a beautiful product. I'm not one for heavy foundation, as I think it makes me look cheap and crusty. This is an excellent alternative. It is a light moisturizer that provides wonderfully sheer coverage. If you are looking for something that will cover flaws, this will not work for you. It imparts a natural look and is perfect for summer. Almost perfect...it contains no sunscreen and only comes in two shades. Lumineuse is available in two formulations, one for dry skin and another for combination/oily complexions. It retails for $26.99CA.

Neutrogena Anti-Wrinkle Anti-Blemish Cream

I like this lightweight moisturizer, that contains Retinol, a form of Vitamin A, to combat wrinkles, and salicylic acid, to fight acne. For a gal with crow's feet and adult zit syndrome, my skin has been looking quite nice lately, thank you very much. I'm always pleased to find a face cream that won't clog my pores and aggravate my tendency to break out. Don't get it in your eyes either, it will sting. Contains no sunscreen. It usually runs for under $20, and I purchased it on sale for $13.99.

Airdrie's Reviews:

Dream Cream from Lush. ($25 Cdn) This hand and body lotion has a rich moisturizers and lavender oil for healing skin. I use it after I shave my legs, and my daughter uses it on her eczema. It is a wonderful cream. They will give you a sample if you would like to try it.

Diva Cup. ($40 Cdn) Listen to the full review for information about this menstrual cup. I really like it, and I enjoy making a smaller footprint on the Earth by using less tampons.

Reality Check

We have a fun one this week. The current fashion of low-waist jeans and tight t-shirts aren't for every body, and this week we talk about wearing clothes that flatter your shape. Rebecca, aka Miss604, is a Vancouver blogger and podcaster who tackles this issue in her amusing post about "muffin-tops".

I got stretch marks, starting on my inner thighs, when I was 11 or so. I definitely stressed about it because I thought I was the only one, and because I thought it meant I was fat (in hindsight, I probably was not, just curvy). I also got them elsewhere through junior high, as my curves developed, breasts, butt, etc. She doesn't seem too concerned, so I wouldn't make a big deal, but teach how to treat her skin well for elasticity and remind her that other girls get them too. They do fade, and sunless tanner works wonders.

Hi ladies! I started listening about a month ago, and I absolutely love your show. I've even gone back in the archives and listened to all the old shows, and I've picked up a lot of great info, so thanks! I was also excited to hear you mention something I said about the Diva Cup (I'm the one who mentioned changing it in the shower). Anyway, I wanted to let you guys know about a product I think you'll find interesting. I recently read a rave review on a blog about a soap that sounded wonderful. It's called Queen
Silver Soap
, and the list of reviews on Epinions makes it sound like a miracle product (strangely, I couldn't find anything about it on Makeup Alley, but I've been having problems with their search engine lately). There's also a cool story on the product page about how the process for making the soap takes 70 days. The only catch: the soap costs $40US a bar! However, they do provide free samples (even for Canadians! I'm in Ottawa) so I ordered one. It's only been a couple days so time will tell if it is in fact a miracle product, but I thought I'd pass the info along.
