Episode #63 - Eye Product Shout-Outs

Let's kick it out with show #63 of Lip Gloss and Laptops (MP3 file link - about 1 hour).

This week, we have good things to say about some eye products that have recently tickled our fancy. We also announce the winner from our draw. Congratulations Cindy, you've won yourself two eye shadows and a lip gloss from Therapy Systems!

Kerry Anne's Reviews:

Shiseido Advanced Volume Mascara

I was recently turned onto Shiseido's Advanced Volume Mascara by a makeup artist who swears by this product. It doesn't come cheap ($27CA or $22US), but I LOVE it. It gives "good lash", by building volume, definition and length. You can also put tons on, and it still looks fine with no clumping or Tammy Faye freakishness. It comes in five shades. I chose the AV1 which is a lovely jet black that really brings out the colour of my eyes.

Here's the only comes in a waterproof formulation, and because of that, it's a challenge to remove at the end of the day. If you're going to purchase this mascara, make sure you've got a quality oil-based eye makeup remover and the patience required to take it off.

Revlon Makeup Eraser Pen

I'm really impressed with this product that makes history of eye and lip makeup mistakes. It is a quick-fix stick that looks similar to a felt-tipped magic marker. Just swipe the pen over the smudge and voila, it's gone. It leaves a bit of a greasy residue, which dries fast, and won't affect the rest of your makeup. It's perfect for liquid/gel/cream eyeliner mistakes, mascara smudges and long-wearing lipstick blunders. A great item to throw into your purse, too! $7.99US and $10CA

Airdrie's Reviews:

Revlon Illuminance Creme Shadow

I picked-up this palette of four creme shadows on sale at the drugstore recently. Available in 12 color groups, the one I purchased is called Seashells. I really like this product because it works nicely as a shadow and a highlighter for inner and under eyes.

Kiehl's Supremely Gentle Eye Makeup Remover

At $16.50 US, this eye makeup remover is priced competitively with other designer brands. I love, love, love this product. I got a sample the other day, and you all have to go get yourselves a sample of this, too. Or, just trust me and go buy a bottle. It smells wonderful, it is not too greasy, and it does not irritate my eyes at all. Added bonus: I love the smell. I actually look forward to removing my eye makeup with this product. Go get it.

UPDATE: Not intended to remove waterproof or water-resistant eye make-up.

Reality Check:

Sophie Gregoire-Trudeau on her past struggle with bulimia, and advocacy for the need for positive body image role-models in our society. Airdrie reads some excerpts from her feature interview in the Spring 2007 issue of Moods Magazine.

Song of the Week: "That Spells DNA" by Jonathan Coulton

Lynn Chen's Actors Off podcast features voiceover legend Joe Cipriano this week. Coincidentally, Airdrie's husband Derek met Joe at the NAMM music conference in January—Joe also appears in Apple's online podcasting seminar with Derek's podcast co-host Paul Garay. Small world.

a good oil based cleanser will take off any waterproof anything. i like DHC deep cleansing oil which you use on dry skin. it emulsifies and rinses completely clean with water.

the SHU UEMURA cleansing oils are great too but more expensive.
