Airdrie's Reviews

SunsilkThis week I tried one of the new products from Sunsilk. This drugstore-brand shampoo and conditioner comes in a bunch of formulations, but I tried the one in the pink bottles: Sunsilk Hydra TLC with Nutri-Keratin.

Priced under five dollars, this shampoo provides a rich lather, and did not over-strip my hair, like some shampoos do. The conditioner is also very good for the price. It does the job. Two thumbs up for Sunsilk Hydra TLC. I noticed they are giving away free samples at the Canadian site, linked above. Unilever, the makers of Sunsilk, is an international company, and you can search for your country's web site for possible free samples here.

TRESemmeFor the last three months I've been periodically using a mousse from TRESemme (Extra Hold). It is a fabulous mousse that I picked up at the ABC store in Hawaii while on vacation. It is actually my husband's, but I use it.

The large bottle was under $4 US, and is still going strong. This product leaves my hair feeling silky, and adds great volume. Now, everyone's hair is different, so I can't guarantee you'll like this product. However, I really think you should try it if you use mousse. It's great. Available at drugstores (you don't have to fly to Hawaii, unless you need to get away from it all—I wish I was in Honolulu right now, sigh).

Kerry Anne's Reviews

0454946522702_275x275I was recently given a sample of Soda Shampoo by Fresh. It contains bicarbonate of soda, as well as mint and lavender waters and grapefruit.

The first time I washed my hair with it, my hair lathered like crazy, and got all deep-down clean. It smells like a heavenly, fresh grapefruit grove. My hair was lovely and voluminous, and I was smitten.

But...after using it all week, my hair became very dry. On the packet, it specifically says that it is formulated for those with fine, oily and colour-treated hair (I'm all three), but it was too harsh to be used as a daily shampoo. It's a nice clarifying shampoo, but is not unlike anything you can pick up from the drugstore at a fraction of the price. Fresh Soda retails for $24US or $33CA for 10 oz., which I think is just too expensive for this shampoo! Are they nuts?

On Mascara

  • Kerry Anne's favourite mascara for a nighttime look: Cover Girl Triple Mascara
  • Airdrie's Lancome mascara that she likes for a daytime look is L'Extreme (**NOT** Fatale, or Definicils, oops, my memory is going. Have you tried either of these? Tell us how you liked it!! email us, and we will read your review.) Airdrie also likes L'Oreal mascaras. (Did you know L'Oreal owns Lancome?)

Reality Check: Follow-up from show #38

Please listen to this week's reality check, then email us with any suggestions you might have on how to fight racism and hate on the internet. Airdrie is still angry, and looking for a fight.

Airdrie Asks: Is this too much cleavage for a wedding? HELP.

Song of the week is from Clea, and it is called "Download It!" Enjoy!

Beauty is about perception, not about make-up. I think the beginning of all beauty is knowing and liking oneself. You can't put on make-up, or dress yourself, or do you hair with any sort of fun or joy if you're doing it from a position of correction. - Kevyn Aucoin

Hi, Ladies - YES! You're right - The Soda Shampoo is overpriced. If you add some ordinary baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) to your regular everyday shampoo, it instantly turns it to a de-gunking clarifying shampoo. It totally works to get rid of the greasies. I don't measure, but just a tablespoon does the trick - Janice B. from Chicago!

P.S. I would wear a shrug or cardigan with the dress. It is a bit cleavage-licious. :) - Janice again.

I'm going to pick up some of that Sunsilk shampoo the next time I'm out--I've been using and loving the new Clairol line, but did find that it dried my hair out, so the Sunsilk sounds interesting.

About your dress, Airdrie, that picture's at an odd angle, but I don't think you're showing too much. If you had bigger breasts, it might be sketchy (and your breasts are lovely, for the record), but at your size, that cut is quite flattering and classy. I don't think a cover-up during the ceremony is even all that necessary. Have fun!

Godspeed on the fight against you-know-who, let us know if there's any way we can help!

I know, this photo is at a wierd angle. It's taken from above, and you would have be be very tall to get that angle in rl. Of course, you never know who you'll meet at these things. Tall, dark, handsom . . .

I say go for it. The dress looks very pretty. Good luck in your fight against the racism on BB.

The recommendation for a night-time look mascara couldn't have come with better timing as I'm off to the store this weekend to try something new. I think I'll see what L'Oreal has since I've never tried that brand for mascara before.

About the dress, definitely go for it! Bring a wrap just for the fact that it is darn cold out, but there's no reason to hide a beautiful body behind it.

For the fight against racism and hate on the internet, I'd love to help out, but don't have any good ideas at the moment.

I think it's showing too much, but maybe from a different angle it wouldn't look like you were showing as much.

Kerry Anne, I'm going to try the triple mascara! Fingers crossed! ;)

Henna, I hope you like it. I've tried all kinds, and I just keep coming back to this one for the volume it gives me.

Airdrie, I absolutely adore your freckles. Goodness, they rock. I'm a faithful listener, and I adore the podcast just a little too much. Am I a complete idiot, or am I somehow missing where one can email you guys? I don't see it anywhere on the site! This is very distressing.

I like that dress. It's a very classic LBD. However, I recommend accessorizing.

I can't believe how many grown women still bully. I thought that was only a childish thing to do. Good luck with your fight for justice.

I agree with Janis about your freckles, they are quite lovely. I hope you didn't spend your childhood trying to hide them... :)

I think the dress is very pretty and not too over the top. But if it's as cool as it is here in Michigan, you'll need something so you won't freeze.

Racism on the internet. I don't know because it's a perfect place to keep your anonymity thereby fostering such ill conduct.

Ok, let me clarify...just because hate exists and is prevalent on the internet doesn't mean it's right or shouldn't be fought in some way or the other.

(My previous comment seemed rather complacent.)
