Kerry Anne's Reviews

Kiss Me Mascara

This week, Airdrie and I tried the KissMe Mascara and Eyeliner from Blinc Inc.

The tagline for Kiss Me Mascara is "STOP painting your lashes...TUBE them!" The mascara's active ingredient is an acrylic copolymer, which coats the lashes with a substance that can only be removed with water and gentle pressure.

blinc_mascara1-1The "tubes" literally slide off when it comes time to remove them. Because it is not oil-based, like many traditional mascaras, it will not smudge, smear, flake or run. Kiss Me is a miracle for ladies who have problems with other mascaras due to eye shape, oil production and other issues.

For the first time in my life, I can wear mascara on my bottom lashes, and it looks natural and stays put! It defines, separates and darkens those bottom lashes, yet looks like I'm not wearing anything on them.

For me this mascara suits me better for a daytime look, since I enjoy lusher lashes with more volume for evening. It does take a few applications to perfect the look. Available in six colours for $25US or $29.95CA.

Kiss Me Eyeliner

KMEyelinerKiss Me Eyeliner's formulation is very similar to the mascara, and has the same staying power. It won't run or fade during the day, even if you rub your eyes. As with most liquid liners, the perfect application may take a bit of practice, and the look is different than with regular kohl or pencil eyeliners. The brush creates a thin, dramatic line, which can be worked with for about a minute, until the product sets. The eyeliner will slide right off with warm water and gentle pressure. It is available in three colours and retails for $25US or $29.95CA.

For ordering information and retailer, refer to the Blinc Inc website.

Airdrie's Review

Two Thumbs-up!: Kiehl's Superbly Efficient Anti-Perspirant and Deodorant ($10.50 US at Kiehls)

This cream anti-perspirant is really fabulous. It does not have the harsh odour that a lot of antiperspirants have. It is creamy, not chalky, and really cuts the sweat. The cream absorbs quickly, and leaves the skin soft and supple, with no residue. Airdrie loves this product.

Reality Check

This week we discuss an article, "Is Extra Large the New Medium?" by Natalie Karneef. It deals with the confusion women face finding their "true" size due the fact that there are no standards for sizing, and that many stores use vanity sizing geared toward their demographic clientele.

Hi,
Thanks for posting a picture of my laptop bag. Note, it is a backpack not a shoulder bag.
I enjoyed your podcast today. Keep up the good work.

Ooohh.. I have the Marina bag in hot pink and it's adorable. It functions as a purse so I don't need to carry around an extra bag. Very practical and stylish!

Off to listen to the podcast right now...

I'm barely through the podcast, so I may feel it necessary to comment again... but let me assure you, some girl dogs DO hump! My black lab, Zoey, really likes to be on top...

Airdrie, I was intrigued by the Kiehl's deoderant. So you take a bit and rub it under your arms with your fingers? I find that so weird!

And Kerry Ann about the Blinc mascara - I remember Paula Begoun reviewing it and she said that the "tube" marketing info that they put out is absolute bollocks. There's no "tubes" forming on your eyelashes it's just going on like regular mascara. Though, if you like it on that is a whole other story. I hope that advertising isn't going to take over the podcast because one of the things that I've always liked about you ladies is that you think about the marketing copy instead of just buying it. Anyway, there does seem to be something special and different about the formula and it sounds neat. Oh, and do tell, what is the mascara that you use at night time for more drama? I like a dramatic mascara for every day and though I usually go with the Voluminous Mascara by L'oreal, I need a change... I'm contemplating either Fatale by Lancome or the Dior Diorshow... I'd love a suggestion.

Interesting note about the vanity sizing. This was a topic of much interest earlier this year on the fashion Incubator blog. You can find the latest post on the subject at: http://www.fashion-incubator.com/mt/archives/history_of_womens_sizing_pt3.html
but one really needs to read the entire series. Kathleen is very knowledgeable as she is "in" the fashion industry.

She makes a very good point in that the fashion designers or stores have their own demographic and that is where they cater to. It is an unfortunate fact of life, but we live in a capitalistic society and if a designer wants to design for rail thin ladies and label a woman with size 34 inch hips an extra large, then that designer has every right to do so.

This makes us all find a clothing line we like where we feel comfortable in, and it usually happens to be where we wear the size that we think we should be, if that makes any sense.

I have not read Kathleen posts since she wrote them back in April, but I may have to read them again. At any rate, everyone who is interested should definitely check those out.

Hey I been reading your site for a while now and really like it. I am looking for a laptop bag, love these ones. Bit to pricey for me though, I have found some at http://www.buy-pink-laptops.co.uk that are cheaper!
