Episode #38 - A Six Year Old, Seattle, Scents, Sticks, and Sucky Sites
Listen to episode #38 in MP3 audio format at the podcast page, or get the MP3 directly (52 minutes). And yes, that's Thomas Dolby with Airdrie in the photo.
Here are some links to the things we mention in this week's show.
Lauren, who is six, reviews Victoria's Secret Beauty Rush lip gloss in I Want Candy.
Airdrie Reviews a bunch of cool stuff she experienced on her shopping trip to Seattle this past weekend:
1. Smith's Minted Rose Lip Balm
2. Cargo Lip Gloss Greeting Cards for Christmas. Proceeds of this product donated to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital (stjudes.org).
3. Kiehl's Superbly Efficient Anti-Perspirant and Deodorant. Will review next show.
4. Butter London. Nail Salon with three locations in the Seattle area.
5. Nanette Lepore -- this designer has two scents, Nanette Lepore and Shanghai Butterfly. Each scent is quite different, and the notes are listed just below. The bottles are beautiful.
Nanette Lepore
In order to capture Nanette Lepore's whimsically romantic creations, the perfumers abandoned the traditional - weaving together a tapestry of natural essences including threads that flow throughout the entire fragrance. The notes are delicate and white, colorful and sparkling, and warm and sensual.
Notes:
Moonstone Rose, White Peach, White Cranberry Juices, Magenta Nectar, Black Currant, Orange Jasmine, Persian Lime Juice, Velvet Violet, Amber, Indian Sandalwood.
Style:
Delicate. Colorful. Warm.
Shanghai Butterfly
Nanette Lepore heads east with this lush fragrance inspired by Thailand, and brief stopovers in Russia and China. Fresh fruits mingle with sophisticated blossoms soothed with exotic notes of green cedar, Siberian musk, and sandalwood.
Notes:
Lemon Slice, Mandarin, Snow Apple, Carnation, Lily of the Valley, Gardenia, Poet's Jasmine, Whisper Rose, Oriental Leaves, Green Cedar, Siberian Musk, Sandalwood.
Style:
Lush. Sophisticated. Exotic.
6. Betsey Johnson
"Betsey Johnson cartwheels into fragrance with a scent that draws from all different facets of her personality. The fruity floriental juice and the art deco vintage bottle create an experience that is part boudoir pin up girl, part Pop Art rock star - and all Betsey!"
Betsey Johnson
A rare combination of bright enthusiasm in juicy top notes like grapefruit, tangerine, pear, and the creamy addiction that is created in notes of praline, amber, and musk, this sensual fragrance of a modern pin up, is a feminine mix of boudoir and extravagant pop art.
Notes
Grapefruit, Tangerine, Blackcurrant Berries, Pear, Freesia, Muguet Lily of the Valley, Apple, Cedarwood, Sandalwood, Amber, Musk, Praline.
Style:
Eccentric. Wonderful. Tantalizing.
7. Bvlgari Eau Thé Rouge
For Women and Men.
Created from the only two varieties of red tea ever cultivated: Roiboos tea from South Africa and Yunnan tea from China, this versatile fragrance blends these two fine teas with the vibrant notes of orange, bergamot, and pink pepper, along with the soft, sensual notes of fig pulp, walnut, and musk.
Notes:
Pink Pepper, Orange, Bergamot, Red Tea Accord, Fig Pulp, Walnut, Musk.
Style:
Enticing. Vibrant. Luminous.
8. Bvlgari's Omnia
For Women.
Bvlgari's light, modern oriental fragrance is a sexy blend of mandarin, saffron, Masala tea, and white chocolate. This scent smells truly good enough to eat.
Notes:
Mandarin, Saffron, Masala Tea, and White Chocolate.
Style:
Sexy. Warm. Delicious.
Kerry Anne's Picks
I picked up a Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss in "Cherries in the Glow", an homage to their iconic "Cherries in the Snow" Super Lustrous Lipstick. Cherries in the Glow is a sheer red gloss that has more shine than colour. I like the sponge tip applicator and the texture of the product, which is neither too slick nor too sticky. It provides a hint of colour, and thankfully, no sparkles. I recommend this gloss, also available in nine other shades. ($9.49CA or $6.00US for 0.2 fl oz (5.9 ml))
Reality Check
Check out the podcast for this week's reality check. We'd prefer not to give this lame "free speech" website any additional publicity. We exercise our right to free speech by saying the website in question sucks.
Our song this week is from the UK Pop band "Clea". The song title is The Lie. Enjoy!
“I find that the very things that I get criticized for, which is usually being different and just doing my own thing and just being original, is the very thing that's making me successful.” - Shania Twain

OK, Margarita Mix is a bad stocking stuffer for kiddies! Duly noted! Heheheheee. OMG. All moms seem to have those "whoops" moments, right? OK, listening to the rest of the show! - Janice B. from Chicago
Me again! Rooibos tea is great! It's not really a "tea" in the traditional sense. Wikipedia has more info:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rooibos
Adagio teas has a very yummy rooibos vanilla tea:

Both those Bvlgari scents sound great, maybe I should hit up the Macy's on State Street for a sample! Keep up the good work, ladies! - Janice B. from Chicago (again)
The website we are not giving any more publicity to is absolutely apalling! I'm amazed to discover that some women are still as catty and vicious as we're made out to be in Mean Girls. I can't believe they're trying to fly the free speech flag, either. In my opinion, free speech is spectacular unless its intent is to cause harm; if people are offended by a political cartoon or some such is one thing, but to just sit around and bash people for no reason other than to kill time and be malicious... that's disgusting.
ANYWAY thanks for another great show, I'm definitely going to check out the scents for a girlfriend of mine, I'm eager to get her something yummy and oriental for Christmas. Thanks!

Wow, lots of great reviews this show! I’m curious to try the Bvlgari scents. I love the Revlon Super Lustrous lip gloss – I have 4 colours and it’s the brand I reach for the most. I like it more than MAC lipglass! Can’t beat the price of the Revlon stuff when you get it BOGO free! I’ve seen that bashing site before and it’s pretty hard to believe people will say such rude things. Notice that they are anonymous, though. They might not be so brave if they had to give out their email address in order to post.
Hi, ladies. I just wanted to say that I love your show, and I look forward to it every week!
This week's "reality check" about that web site was horrible -- what a bummer. Still, I have to believe that this is only a few sick people who are very prolific. The vast majority of people are truly good at heart.
Thanks for keeping up with your podcast.
Best,
Erin (Chicago)
Oh my word.
Google'd the Website That Shall Not Be Named (maybe we should start calling it Voldemort?) and it just makes me want to cry. I'm clicking through the most recent posts, out of sheer morbid curiosity... here are my thoughts: Those people are bullies, and spineless bullies, at that. It's lame enough to make fun of people in real life, but anonymously, over the internet, protected by a pseudonym? It's ridiculous, cowardly, and reeks of self-loathing. No confident woman needs to put other people down that way. I notice they're abusing a lot of older women, saying they should be knitting instead of posting pics in a beauty community... I'm 24, and I knit. It's called a skill, meanies!! And besides, we all know that beauty fades... wisdom and kindness? Will last a lifetime. I think they all need to put Oscar Wilde's Picture of Dorian Gray on their reading lists; they might learn a thing or two. In the meantime, I think all of us with MakeupAlley accounts should counterattack! We should make a point of complimenting every picture we see there, instead of just thinking to ourselves, "oh, she has pretty eyes..." At worst, whoever gets the compliment won't care... but at best, we could help bolster peoples' self-esteem, and at absolutely no more cost to ourselves than the time it takes to say "you have a beautiful smile" or "that eyeshadow really works on you." Who's in??
Love the show!!!1 Great job and what a cute photo of Airdrie! (love those dimples!)
Anyway, I also had the Cherries in the Glow lip gloss, i got to work a couple of years ago and discovered that I had NO lip color so I went to the local supermarket and picked it up. It is a nice sheer color. I recently threw it out as it had separated in the tube, but it was a good product. Good shine and a hint of color, it was very natural looking on my skin.
Hearing you ladies talk about Butter London makes me want to run out and get a manicure, which I haven't done in YEARS due to the two little ones I have at home, but I may treat myself soon.
One last thing, that website that shall not be named? I went there a few years ago and just could not believe what I was reading. I am sad to see it is still going strong.
Did I mention I love the show? Great job.
