Episode #15: Hair Care and the Hockey Theme Song

This week Airdrie and Kerry-Anne each reviewed some of their favourite hair care products. They're all expensive, but better to have a few items of excellent quality that will last you months, rather than repeatedly buying mediocre products that don't perform... and cost you the same in the end.

Airdrie's Picks

  1. Aveda Confixor Liquid Gel ($25 CAD, 250ml). Massage a dime-sized drop to the palms, then apply to damp hair. It will give you a soft lasting hold. Air uses it as a wash-and-go product for her wavy hair. The fragrance will really turn heads.

  2. Joico K-PAK Reconstructant Protect and Shine Serum ($14.50 CAD) (If you are a resident of the Lower Mainland of BC, visit Zennkai Salon, part of the MegaHair Family in Metrotown Mall, Burnaby. This salon is famous for "ethical pricing" of quality haircare products.) This product polishes and seals the cuticle, helps prevent frizziness, and contains sunscreen. The scent is wonderful. Be sure to try it at the salon before you buy it, as this serum may make fine hair too greasy. Best for coarse hair.

Kerry Anne's Picks

  1. FF GlossingFrederic Fekkai Hair Glossing Cream with Olive Oil Moisturizes, tames stray hairs, shines and makes hair super soft. Smells lovely. Those with fine, straight hair will want to avoid applying it to their roots or it will weigh hair down. ($18.50US for 4oz or $25US for 7oz at Sephora)

  2. Pureology haircarePureology Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner Love this shampoo, but smell it before you buy it because I've heard others hate the smell. It's highly concentrated, so you just need a bit and should last you ages. The conditioner leaves hair silky and shiny. I've yet to find a conditioner that makes my hair so shiny! No sulfates or salts, and this company does no animal testing. It contains some organic ingredients and is 100% vegan too. Wash your hair with this and then go hug a tree. ($25CA or $21US for 10.1oz, available at salons)

  3. quantum pasteQuantum Micro-V Fix Paste This product is truly elusive, I got it from my stylist, who got it from her wholesale distrubutor. The only place I can find it online is on Ebay, or Fabao. This is magic for girls with short hair. It creates shine, hold and is great for messy looks. I can't say enough about it except that I wish it was widely available. Why create an excellent product and not share it with the world? ($19.95CA for 150mL)

  4. Aura MousseAura Mousse in Lemongrass Another recommendation from my stylist, who knows the challenges of my fine hair. Smells kind of like a Creamsicle, and is alcohol-free so it won't leave your hair all crispy and crunchy. ($4.99US, $8CA for 9oz)
