Episode #10 - Eye Liner
Our tenth episode! You can now listen to Lip Gloss and Laptops show #10, either by downloading the MP3 file - 1h 1m 17s, or reading the shownotes page. If you like, you can keep this page handy while you're listening.
Airdrie's Picks
Estee Lauder Automatic Eye Pencil Duo (05-Khaki). Available in other colours, you can't go wrong with this quality product. Comes with a refill and a sponge tip for blending. ($27.50 CAD, $23.50 USD)
Physicians Formula Eye Definer Felt-Tip Eye Marker in Dark Brown. Waterproof and lasts a long time ("24 hours"); may flake. ($10.49 CAD, $6.95 USD)
Kerry Anne's Picks
Revlon ColorStay Eyeliner ($9.99CA, $6.49US) This twist-up liner offers a cheaper alternative to the Estee Lauder product, without compromising quality. This one glides on so easily, it's magic! It comes with a built-in sharpener at the end of the pencil too, so you are still able to get a fine, precise line close to the lashes. I didn't find it as smudge-proof as they claimed it to be, because it does make its way downward on a humid day. On the plus side, one day last week, it endured an entire day of work, a trip to the gym, a hormonal moment, and a short nap. The lasting quality comes with a small price...you're going to have to use some elbow grease to get it off. I suggest you invest in a nice eye makeup remover formulated for waterproof eye makeup.
Rimmel Soft Kohl Kajal Eyeliner ($5.99CA, $2.50US ) I seem to be raving about a Rimmel product every week. Lipgloss, blush, powder, and now eyeliner. Have I ever met a Rimmel product I didn't like? Yes, once. I've only purchased one type of their eyeliners, but it's been a staple in my cosmetic drawer ever since. I love it. For a cheap liner, you can't beat it. It goes on so softly and gently, yet deposits so much colour. This liner is not waterproof and its quite smudgeable. In a good way. The colour I love is Jungle Green, a boldly pigmented teal I like to mix with another brown liner to mellow it out. Rimmel also has an Automatic (retractable) Pencil Liner similar to the ones we reviewed above, which I'll get to eventually. (I once bought a Rimmel nailpolish that was as good as any OPI I've ever used, but I digress).

Reality Check: Save the Children
Of course, there's more to life than makeup, and our reality check this week deviated from cosmetics to call attention to the situation in Sudan. Airdrie is feeling angry and helpless to help prevent the genocide in Sudan, and the abduction of children in Uganda, so she took action and wrote to our Prime Minister. Read more.
I don't make an effort to be sloppy. I just don't consider a perfect hairdo and a perfect face to be beautiful. If I had my way I'd dress myself and do my own makeup for magazine shoots. - Juliette Lewis

Is the iPod nano for Kerry Anne or Airdrie? Or is it for a L&L listener?
I haven't listened to the show yet, but I must admit I am sad that all the picks are for pencils.
I find most pencils very awkward to use, and I have to "pull" at the corner of my eye to get a good, clean line. I much prefer the cake or gel formulas, liquid after those.
I'll be back after I listen to the show!
Thanks for your feedback, Pavlina. We will constantly be revisiting topics. There is so much makeup out there, and new products coming out all the time, that we can only talk about so much on one show.
We will eventually devote a show to cake/gel eyeliners.
I just listened to the show, it was great!
I was interested in the Physicians Formula Felt pen, until you said "flake", then I was like, meh.
You know, I used to do the melt the eyeliner thing back in junior high. It's a miracle I can see these days!
Oh yeah, I use the MAC fluidlines and they are FAB!
