Episode #2 is ready - download now

If you subscribe to our podcast, you may have Episode 2 of Lip Gloss and Laptops (Conversations About Mascara) on your computer or iPod already. If not, go to the page now or download the MP3 file (43 minutes, about 24 MB in size). We also have a new 55-second promo for our upcoming March 15 episode, which will begin our ongoing series The Perfume Chronicles.

Read our previous blog post for notes about the mascaras we tried and liked (or didn't like). Please leave a comment about the show, and make suggestions about perfumes we should cover next week. Thanks for listening!

I am looking forward to the perfume chronicles. I have not yet found my signature scent either Kerry Anne. Sometimes I like to wear men's cologne. Do you think that is weird?

This leads to the question-Do you choose a scent to appeal to or please your own self or others? I'm interested in what men feel about perfume and the effects it has on them. Perhaps Derek will add a male perspective on this topic.

Even a little guido man who wears his shirts unbuttoned and flashy gold jewellery and looks nothing like Hank Azaria is more appealing if he smells nice. I like a well cologned man. Should I assume that a good perfume will offer the same benefits for me? What do you think?

Airdry and Kerry Anne,
Your podcast this week was good listening. I sat in my bed with a cup of tea (orange pekoe is nice) and enjoyed every minute. In case you were wondering about the length, I felt that the longer show left me more satisfied than last weeks shorter episode.
(And I like when you talk about your other interests.)
I want more!

Hi Kerry Anne and Airdrie.
You sound great. I look forward to seeing your photos. Kerry Anne, would you mind describing what you were wearing during the lipgloss episode?

Gah! I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I tried the iTunes and just downloading it straight onto my computer (and I've tried IE and Firefox)but I can't get the full show. No matter how I do it I only get 2mins and 37seconds. Just long enough to hear about Hank Hate Mail, and then... nothing! Is it my computer that's at fault, or ????

Hey Katie, try this brute-force method:

1. First, select the following text and select Edit > Copy from your browser menu bar (make sure you get the whole thing):

http://www.lipglossandlaptops.com/podcast/shownotes/rss.xml

2. Next, switch to iTunes.

3. From the Advanced menu in iTunes, choose Subscribe to Podcast.

4. A window appears. Past the URL above into the URL box, then click OK.

You'll be subscribed in iTunes, and it should try to download the latest show right away. It's big, so it may take awhile.

You can check anytime by clicking the purple Podcasts link in the Source list on the left side of the iTunes window, then scrolling down to to the Lip Gloss and Laptops entry. Click the little triangle next to it to open up the list of episodes. You can force iTunes to update using the round Update button in the far upper right corner of the iTunes window.

If iTunes doesn't download the podcast episode automatically, there may be a Get button next to the episode name. Click that to download.

Sorry, that should say "paste" not "past" in step 4. That's Edit > Paste from the menu bar.

I think it is ok to wear men's cologne if that is what you like, perfume preference is very subjective. And you should wear what makes you happy. Your signature scent should be a reflection of you, and not your husband. I would also love to know what effect perfume has on men. Maybe we'll get some comments about this.
Darcy, you have good taste in tea. Yesterday, in my perfume research, I found a perfume called "Tea for Two" by L'Artisan Parfumeur. It supposedly smells like black tea and campfire smoke. I don't know if this is too masculine a scent for you.

Ken, the picture is up. Uh, happy listening.

Tea for Two is quite transparent, and though it sounds like it should be heavy and thick, I'd actually describe it as rather weightless in a way. It's a genderless scent, in my humble opinion.

Derek - thank you so much for all the help! I do appreciate it. I dunno what the glitch was? Because that didn't work for me, and the zip didn't work, but when I went to update/refresh my podcast lists yesterday, it all went just fine. Anyhow, thank you :)

Katiedid, I wish I'd been able to try it. That was one of the few samples that they did not offer. I love tea, I'm a junkie for tea and I am so interested in smelling that. We will really need to hook up with you sometime, maybe Lipgloss and Laptops can do a roadtrip to Oregon and interview Scentzilla.
What is your favourite all time scent?

I cannot pin it down to only one. Sigh. I am unable to internalize this "signature fragrance" concept, heh.

Hi there! I just wanted to say hi, I recently discovered your podcast and I'm listening to your podcasts now... I'm on #2 now. As a note about Estee Lauder, you may want to tell your readers about Cosmetic Outlets. I have a post about this on my own weblog. It's like heaven for makeup girls.

You ladies are amazing... I was thinking of a makeup podcast before I heard you two. Not so sure now but I love that this even exists. Thanks!

Carla, we went to that outlet this summer at the retail outlet in Washington I think.
I checked out your blog, it's great! You truly are a makeup junkie.
I like your other blog too, we like a lot of the same things.
Thanks for your support.
